- Here's a little story to warn all of you fellow Amiga users not to ever
- ship anything through the US Postal Service.
-
- Some time before Christmass I decided to sell my fully loaded A2000. I
- thought it would be easier (and quicker) to get rid of if I separted
- different components. Well, the most expensive of all was my Fusion
- Forty 040/28mhz accelerator with 16megs of RAM installed on it. It
- costed me a fortune to say the least.
-
- I found a buyer around a week before the Chirstmass day. We
- agreed on the price and that I would ship it COD. ($800 + s/h). The
- person also requested that I ship it next or 2nd day delivery. Next day
- I went to the Post Office and did just that. First of all, the 'bitch'
- behind the counter was rude as hell. I had to give her a 5 minute
- explanation that I wanted to send a COD package and the amount on it was
- to be $800 + whatever the shipping will cost me. Some how she couldn't
- grasp the concept. I also requested a next day delivery, to which she
- replied that since it was Christmass season the package could get there
- 2nd or even 3rd day. I said 'OK' as long as it wasn't more than 3 days.
-
- My buyer received the package more than a WEEK after I sent it
- out. For some reason (he explained it to me in one of his letters) it
- was too late for him (can't blame him since he warned me about this) and
- had to refuse delivery. Now the shit begins..
-
- The package returns to Chicago. I get the yellow slip in my mail
- saying there is a package waiting for me. At the time I am out of town
- (for X-mas) I get back around 7 days after I receive the slip. I go to
- the Postal Office next day.. THE PACKAGE IS NOT THERE! Well, 'where is
- it then,' I ask. "Uhhh.. well.. hm.. we.. we don't really know." "What
- do you mean you don't know." Now for 15 minutes I explain to the dumb
- clerk what happend. She calls her manager. Again 15 minutes of
- explanation. They go to look for it in a 'storage room'. I wait for
- over 30 minutes, the manager comes back, nothing. I'm getting pissed..
- I've spent over an hour in there and no package. I leave my name and my
- phone number. The manager says she'd call me next day.. I wait for 3
- days. Don't receive any calls.
-
- I go back to the Postal Office. Same story over again. Same
- people, nobody knows anything, nobody even remembers that I was there a
- few days ago. They search for the package for another hour. Finally,
- they decide that they must have sent it back. BACK?!! BACK?!! WHERE???
- I WAS THE ORIGINAL SENDER!! IT'S MY GOD DAMN PACKAGE!.
-
- They give me some LOST PACKAGE Forms, and say I have to wait
- untill the end of February and then send them to the Post Master. Fuck
- it. I have no accelerator, no money, the deal costed me a lot of nerves and
- time. In best case I'll get $600 (that's the maximum amount you can
- insure a COD package for.) Plus, I'll need a prove of value... how the
- hell am I going to prove to them how much this thing really costs.. I
- bought everything through the net.. I don't have any official receipts.
-
- I'm really ready to give it up.. I'll probably sell the rest of my Amiga
- set up (which is not in use now because the accelerator is gone)
- and get a nice and BIG gun and shoot all the lazy fuckers down at the USPS.
-
- Peace.
